Introducing Marlborough’s newest eatery

Meet Marlborough’s newest Eatery – familiar location, brand new offering

Almost a year on from the temporary closure of Marlborough’s iconic Wairau River Cellar door and restaurant, the question on everyone’s lips can finally be answered. The short answer is – yes, your favourite venue is reopening before Summer, but not as you know it. Trust us, this is very good news!

Staying true to their long history of innovation in Marlborough, the Rose Family of Wairau River is pleased to announce an exciting collaboration with an icon of Marlborough hospitality. On Thursday 7th November, Sam Webb, founder of Franks Oyster Bar and Eatery is opening the doors to his newest restaurant, Number 11 at Wairau River.

Quite fittingly, Marlborough’s newest hotspot to wine and dine will be at one of the most iconic restaurant buildings along Marlborough’s wine trail. New meets old.

Number 11 will be open for lunch 7 days a week, cohabitating with the Wairau River Cellar Door for wine tastings.

Wairau River CEO, Lindsay Parkinson said, “We’re excited for Sam to take the helm of his new restaurant and can’t wait to see familiar and new faces out and about enjoying themselves there”. In addressing the question of why now? Lindsay explained, “We understand this has been a long time coming for our loyal supporters, but we knew it had to be done right. Sam came to us with a great idea and we have complete confidence that the food, vibe and service he delivers, will sit perfectly alongside the quality of our brand and the way we like to entertain”.

Sam and his team have been working on a menu that will deliver a fresh, new take on the classic Marlborough winery lunch. Working closely in line with the style of the popular Frank’s, the menu will be fresh, seasonal, fun and designed to share. Ahead of opening Number 11, Head Chef and restauranteur, Sam Webb told us, “opening a new restaurant at the site of arguably Marlborough’s most beloved and respected restaurant is not something I take lightly. Although Wairau River has always been celebrated for its delicious, consistent menu, alongside the Rose family we wanted to deliver a fresh and modern take that pairs perfectly with the incredible range of Wairau River wines. Sam finished by saying, “It’s thrilling to be working alongside a brand I have respected for decades and for my team to be pouring these exceptional wines”.

Number 11 at Wairau River opens 7th November for lunch and wine tastings.
Bookings and menu will be available from 17th October.
